friday queue cleaning: may 9, 2008

I don’t have any links to Tuesday’s results.  In fact, I’m not sure what the final tally in Indiana was (I never did find a “Final Results” kind of story).  But, Clinton is pretty much done.  Superdelegates are trickling away from her.  She is not mathematically eliminated yet, but the math is now a pretty [...]

happy holidays

The first Saturday in May is the closest thing that Kentucky has to a “state holiday.”  In fact, as is the case with Easter (Lent) and Christmas, there is even a season leading up to the big day.  I’m not sure why the Kentucky Derby is such a big deal, but it’s just one of [...]

they grow up so fast

I’ll be the first to admit it:  one of the big problems during Tubby Smith’s era at Kentucky is that the staff seemed to always be a bit behind in recruiting.
Billy Gillespie does not seem to have that problem.  In fact, he is a bit too far ahead it seems.
He just got his first committment [...]

armchair psychiatry

On Nightline Monday night, former NFL player Herschel Walker talked about his struggles with dissociative personality disorder, more popularly known as multiple personality disorder.  I didn’t watch the report, but I read a preview of it.  Then, today, Mike Freeman wrote this article about how he thinks that Walker is making the whole thing up.
The [...]

please let it be true!!!

It looks like Billy Packer may be on his way out at CBS.  If only.  It would be the best basketball story of the decade.

friday queue cleaning

So this week, I took a lighter approach with the blog.  So, the queue is quite full. So . . .

Global warming.  I can’t keep up with it.  First, it’s over.  Then, it’s not over.  Then, it’s going to make us into cannibals.  Now, it seems that it’s been over for nearly 10 years?  Except [...]

farewell, friend I never met

Rest In Peace, Mr. Wildcat

march madness part 6: i’m done

Going into the sweet 16, I had a chance of getting 7 out of games correct.  And, on Thursday, it looked like I might jut pull it off.  I got 3 of 4, and the one I missed was the one I couldn’t get right.  Plus, 2 of my final 4 were still alive.  I [...]

friday queue cleaning

A few days ago, I got hooked up with del.icio.us, which is a bookmarking site.  It’s very similar to the bookmark feature on your browser, but it’s got a few extras.  One of which is that wordpress has a feature that allows me to sync my bookmarks with my blog.  So basically, I go to [...]

march madness part 5: what’s a hilltopper?

With my beloved alma mater making it into the sweet sixteen of the NCAA tournament, I’ve heard the question many times, both directed to me and thrown about the media:  What exactly his a Hilltopper and what’s the deal with the red blob.
One thing to note first off is the difference between a “nickname” and [...]

march madness part 4: it’s the sweet sixteen

And the Hilltoppers are going to Phoenix!!!
My bracket is in bad shape.  I only got 9 out of the sweet 16 correct.  But, I still have 6 of my elite 8, and my entire final four intact, so there’s hope.

march madness part 3: the bracket is shot

So, as with every year, my bracket picks were shot about 3 hours into the tournament beginning.  On one hand, all of my final four are still in it, and 7 of my elite 8 still going, so it could turn around.  But, overall, I did horribly.
There were 2 games I was particularly proud of.  [...]

march madness part 2: the picks

So, now, the moment you have all been waiting for.  Here are my picks.  There is also a tab at the top of the page you can click.  So, now you have what you need to win your NCAA Tournament office pool.
And yes, I realize that I already have missed one game (Mt. St. Mary’s [...]

march madness part 1: 3 feel good stories.

So, the brackets are out, and it’s march madness time once again.  Growing up in Kentucky, I am a big college basketball fan, so bracket time is one of my favorite times of the year.  Tomorrow, I’ll post my picks (though for tonights game, it’s Coppin State).
One of the things that make sports so compelling [...]

hail to thee, alma mater

The Hilltoppers are going dancing!
